As part of a substantial refurbishment throughout the entire airport, Dublin Airport recently welcomed a new €22 million boarding gate area to its Terminal 2 facilities. The South Gate facility is now home to five new boarding gates, increasing capacity to 1,000 and improving experience for the ever-growing number of passengers travelling through the terminal, to US and European destinations.
Working with Blue Sky Engineering, Luxonic was tasked with installing a sleek solution that would light the way for the airport expansion. Earmarked as the flagship facility for the Airport’s expansion, the South Gate was scheduled to reach completion in a restricted timeframe. As such, it was essential that Luxonic’s installation was to cause minimal disruption to passengers continuing to travel through the rest of the airport.
As one of the first facilities unveiled as part of the Airport’s €100 million refurbishment, the South Gate building was intended to provide an impressive preview to encapsulate the look and feel of the extensive new scheme. An aesthetically pleasing lighting system would illuminate the boarding gates 24 hours a day.
Luxonic recommended the use of its SLIMLUX® D61, a recessed linear downlight LED luminaire. Devising a bespoke 1.2m x 1.2m configuration, the company’s specialist product engineers created a square fitting to be suspended throughout the boarding gate area.
Luxonic was able to efficiently deliver a bespoke solution that struck a perfect balance between understated aesthetics and energy performance. Selected for its simple and modern aesthetic, the unique SLIMLUX® grid scheme now illuminates the way for the more than 29m passengers Dublin Airport welcomes every year.
Furthermore, impressed by the end-result and Luxonic’s willingness to work closely to smooth out project issues, Dublin Airport has since awarded preferred supplier status to the lighting specialist.
